It is indeed a wonderful time to be alive. Duran Duran is back. The band's self-titled album is an answer to all early criticisms
of how its songs sound alike and its lyrics don't make sense.
Musically, the band ventures extensively into house and dance. "Drowning Man" and "Shot Gun," especially, showcase the
brilliance of Nick Rhodes on keyboards. But it is the old Duran-esque songs that really draw listeners. "Ordinary World" and
"Come Undone," with their haunting, accoustic moods, clever bridges, chorus hooks and whimsical sound have all the
promise of "Save a Prayer."
Fans who have seen the band recently are probably distressed at how poorly pop's ex-gods have aged since their heyday.
But no matter. The album's brilliant.
